Teaching Experience

Anna's teaching draws upon many years of experience as a theater artist with a primary focus on physical theater approaches, based on Lecoq’s principles and incorporating a variety of influences, including Laban Movement Analysis.  Specific areas include clown & physical comedy, introduction to movement dynamics, advanced explorations in physical theater performance and ensemble creation, devising techniques, as well as applied theater methods. 

Anna has provided physical theater training for professional conservatories, theater companies and arts-in-education programs, and directed or provided directorial consulting for multiple productions.  Recent work has centered on theater for social change with populations in areas of crisis and conflict.

Taught physical theater techniques to University of Sudan drama students and directed devised performance piece on social issues

Bond Street Theatre – Port-au-Prince, Haiti
Workshops in physical theater and ensemble work for members of Haitian women’s theater group FAVILEK, including play development and performances

Bond Street Theatre – Herat, Afghanistan
Workshops in physical theater and ensemble work for members of Afghan theater troupe Simorgh, including play development and performances

Clowns Without Borders – Grande Goave/Les Cayes, Haiti
Clown and physical theater workshops for adult participants in training program to provide psychosocial support to children and adults post-earthquake

Phare Ponleu Selpak Art School – Battambang, Cambodia
Intensive training program in clown and physical theater for circus students and theater troupe, adolescents and young adults

Creative Arts Laboratory, Teachers College, Columbia University – NYC
Teacher development workshops, providing training in physical theater approaches as part of program integrating arts into the curriculum
